A couple who were recklessly crashed into by an overtaking motorist has been awarded £6,000 car accident compensation.
The Plymouth Herald reported that James Brand and his wife had been travelling in their Mini near Yealmpton when the accident occurred in February 2010.
Damian Pritchard, who was driving his Vauxhall Astra along the A379 in the other direction, had overtaken a number of road users and had attempted to pass a bus and a lorry on a blind bend. He did not see the Brands' Mini coming and he crashed into it head-on.
Mr Brand suffered whiplash injuries, while his pregnant wife who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained a broken collarbone and a fractured hand. The couple both needed time off work to recover from their injuries and suffered the anxiety of worrying about their unborn child.
The Brands took legal action against Mr Pritchard who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. The Brands have now been awarded a payout of GBP 6,000 to cover their injuries and lost earnings from the aftermath of the crash.
In 2009, 2,222 people were killed and 24,690 were seriously injured on British roads. Anyone injured in a traffic accident that was not their fault may be able to claim compensation and should seek the help of a specialist personal injury solicitor.
