Compensation for Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong

Wednesday June 2, 2010 at 9:00am

Despite advances in medical care, it is impossible to get a plastic surgery (also known as cosmetic surgery) completely free of risks and side effects. Plastic surgeries go wrong as a result of many factors including the negligence of the plastic surgeon, misinterpretations, inexperience of a surgeon and poor judgment.

If you suspect that your plastic surgery was unsuccessful as a result of a surgical mistake, you may be entitled to claim plastic surgery negligence compensation for pain, suffering, loss and future medical and other expenses against your plastic surgeon.

A plastic surgery gone wrong can be a real night mare. It is estimated that one in four people who undergo plastic surgery have had bitter experiences from the plastic surgery.

In some cases, plastic surgery gone wrong can be painful and usually lead to severe psychological problems such as depression. For example, in leakage breast implants or severe reactions towards anaesthesia or drooping uneven breasts cases.

Other complications of breast implants may be the painful hardening of the breast implant and the skidding of the implant.

The most common complications following plastic surgery include infection, wound separation, fluid collections and blood clots.

When plastic surgery goes wrong, the outcome can be permanent pain, looking weird and deformed, excessive scarring, paralysis, infection, disfigurement and excessive blood loss.

You may also be experiencing a lot of mental agony which could lead to depression. To correct the mistake, you may be required to undergo another surgery.

If you can show that your disfigurement was caused by your plastic surgeon’s failure to perform the surgery in the same way as a reasonable plastic surgeon specialising in the same field would have, you will succeed in your plastic surgery claim for injury compensation.

But, you will also need to demonstrate that had your plastic surgery been performed in a different way, the end result would have been different.
