Why you need to claim head injury compensation

I have this bad headache after my fall at work? Have I suffered head injury or brain injury?

A head injury is any trauma to the head other than shallow injuries on the surface of the face (as defined by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence).

Serious head injuries can cause brain injury. Once the surface of the brain is torn or bruised, this can injure the blood vessels and nerves resulting in brain injury.

Any damage to the blood vessels and nerves can cause bleeding; blood clots and may put pressure on the brain leading to brain injury.

Head injuries are commonly caused by car accidents, falls and assaults.

If you have suffered a serious head injury or brain injury in a car or motor cycle accident, a factory or any workplace fall, in an assault at work or in any public place incident, you may be entitled to claim compensation for your head injury.

A serious head injury may cause you to develop the following symptoms:

• A bad headache that would get worse within a few hours after the accident.
• You may experience fits or seizures, when your body starts to move without your control.
• You may get confused and disoriented.
• You may develop problems with your senses, for example, you may lose your sense of smell, hearing or develop double vision.
• You may become drowsy
• You may start feeling sick or vomiting

The seriousness of a head injury is assessed using a scale called the Glasgow Comma Scale. This scale ranges from 3 to 15 with 3 being the most severe and 15 least serious. If a head injury is assessed at the scale of 8 or less, that is considered a serious head injury.
