Personal Injury Claims Guide: Benefits to Claim from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

Tuesday June 22, 2010 at 8:22am

After sustaining injuries in an accident at work or on the road or supermarket or anywhere else, you may be entitled to Benefits from the Benefits Agency irrespective of who is to blame for the accident or your injury.

This can include one or more of the following:-

Income Support

Income-related benefit for persons aged 16 to 60 that are on a low income.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

SSP is paid to employees who are unable to work because of sickness. It is paid by your employer for up to a maximum of 28 weeks.

Incapacity Benefit (IB)

If you are not able to work due to illness, you could be entitled to this benefit.

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB)

You can claim this benefit if you were employed in a job that caused you to suffer from certain illnesses.

DWP Recovery of Benefits

You may be required to repay DWP benefits from your personal injury compensation. This will be explained further to you by your own personal solicitor.

Accepting DWP benefits will not affect your right to claim personal injury compensation. You can seek further information from your injury solicitor or your local Benefits Office.

Balinda & Co have many years experience of helping people who have suffered injuries in accidents to get compensation.
