Defects in products manufactured for children cause burns and injuries to children

Thousands of children are treated at hospitals as a result of burns and injuries caused by the poor designing or technical failures of products such as toys or articles of clothing.

Burns to children are very painful and can have long term effect, in serious cases, can cause the disfiguring of a child or at worse death.

Unlike adults, injury to a child can have long lasting impact on all her life. It can affect the child’s development, relationships, learning and play. It can be a very heavy burden on the child and you, the parent especially if the injuries are serious.

Despite the strict safety standards imposed on manufacturers of products intended for children, some hazardous products are still being marketed exposing children to risks of injury.

Some products manufactured for children are marketed before proper testing and inspection. As a result, some products develop technical failures after or before being sold. Defects include among others: dripping battery acid which causes chemical burns, electrical failures which cause fire and flammable fabrics that burn children.

The World Health organisation (WHO) estimated that in 2005, 250 children died as a result of accident injuries.

If your child has suffered burns as a result of using a faulty product such as toys, she may be entitled to claim compensation for her injuries. She may still get compensation even if the toy or article of clothing was given to her as a present.
