The case of Mrs. Evans who claimed bicycle injury compensation

Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 7:55am
Mrs. Evans, 28, a secretary and PA who suffered serious head injuries in a bicycle accident, was fortunate, her husband Paul had a friend who knew a good personal injury solicitor that helped victims of accidents on a “no win no fee” basis.

She sustained a fractured skull and brain injury when her bicycle was hit at a junction by a lorry turning right. Mrs. Evans suffered severe head injuries and was in a coma for thirty five days.

At first the specialist neurosurgeon doctor who was taking care of Mrs. Evans thought that she was not going to make it. These were no ordinary head injuries, but a serious cyclist accident.

The insurance company for the owners of the lorry wanted to settle with Mrs. Evans before she was discharged from the hospital. They approached her husband with some papers while his wife was in a coma and urged him to sign some forms on her behalf.

Paul did not sign. Something told him not to sign the papers and he called his friend to find out about making a cyclist accident claim on behalf of his wife. His friend referred him to an injury lawyer he knew who handled these types of cases.

When Mrs. Evans got out of the hospital, she had a long period to recover and was not able to resume her former employment.

She went with her husband to see the lawyer who was shocked by the extent of her injuries and offered to help her make a claim. Meanwhile, the insurance company was increasing their offer to settle the case out of court. They wanted to give her £15,000.00 for the accident.

The neurosurgeon’s opinion was that Mrs. Evans needed intense cognitive behavioral therapy to regain her independent life and that would take time.

This was not a broken bone case, but a serious head injury claim. The lawyer knew how to handle brain injury cases and looked out for the interests of his clients.

Today, Mrs. Evans is in a good financial shape because she got a settlement from the insurance company that was fifty times more than what they originally offered her.

In addition, she recovered although not fully but is now able to help her husband in the family business.

It is a good idea for anyone, especially those who have been injured in bicycle accidents, to seek out a good cyclist injury solicitor to look after their rights. Don’t get intimidated by insurance companies when right is on your side.
