How to choose which solicitor is best to handle your
personal injury claim, though seems common sense, there are important matters you need to know before selecting a personal injury solicitor.
I have noted some key points from our experience in helping people claim personal injury compensation. Many clients usually change personal injury solicitors after they have been badly let down. They come to us with horror stories. Some of the firms they move from are big national firms who buy claims from claims management companies.
A piece of advice, before you choose a solicitor:
1. Make sure the person you are talking to is actually a personal injury lawyer. I mean not just a person who will sell your details to a solicitor. He or she should be the lawyer who will handle your claim.
2. Ask if the person you are talking to will be dealing with your claim. If the answer is no, ask for the name of the solicitor who will be handling your claim. If they can not supply this to you, then you are most probably talking to a claims management company. Ask them how much referral fee they will be paid for your claim. Claims management companies are required by law to give this information to you.
3. Ask about fees. Do not accept the “No win No Fee” gimmick on face value. Some claims management companies may not tell you the whole story. Quite a number of them charge administrative fees and others will take a percentage of your compensation. A specialist personal injury lawyer will never charge administrative fees nor take a percentage of your compensation.
4. Make sure the solicitor handling your case is approachable and friendly. If you have suffered injuries in an accident especially serious injuries, you need a solicitor who will understand your personal issues rather a person who will treat you as another one of the thousands of cases he or she is handling.
5. Ask for testimonials to verify the solicitor’s expertise in your type of claim.
