A practical joke involving a schoolgirl has turned rotten for one Sunderland man, after he was ordered to pay out £1,000 in personal injury compensation.  According to the Sunderland Echo newspaper, the incident occurred after 18 year old Jay Gomes of Grindon Gardens, had purchased a carton of eggs. While rejecting compensation claims by families of soldiers killed in Iraq on the basis that their cases were outside the “Human Rights” jurisdiction area, Mr. Justice Owen in a landmark decision allowed a negligence claim brought on behalf of a 10- year- old daughter of a deceased soldier. George Michael was jailed by Highbury Corner Magistrates Court yesterday for causing an accident by crashing his Range Rover into a shop while under the influence of drugs. He was told he would spend just half of the 8 weeks behind bars. Following the tragic death of Karolina Maria Golabek aged 5 who died after being crushed by an automatic electric sliding gate in South Wales, a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) spokesperson has said: "HSE has been assisting the police in South Wales following the death of a child in an accident involving a slide electric gate in Bridgend on Saturday. Following the Law Society Council’s vote to press the LSB to ban referral fees in November 2009 across the board, consultants for the LSB, Charles River Associates, have concluded that consumers were not being disadvantaged by referral fees in personal injury. The report stated that, despite the rise of referral fees in personal injury, from about £250 per case in 2004 to about £800 today, there was no evidence that this had led to an increase in the price of legal services. ....
