How to make your work injury claim move faster

You must act quickly to preserve evidence after your accident.

Here are 7 key steps you must take after your accident at work:

  1. Inform your employer immediately and complete the accident report. If you are still in shock or are distressed, do not sign the accident report.

  2. Inform your health and Safety representative immediately if there is one at your workplace.

  3. When you are able, write a statement. Make sure you sign and date it.

  4. Write down the names and telephone numbers or addresses of the witnesses.

  5. Take photographs of the scene of the accident or ask your Health and safety representative or colleague to take them immediately. You can use your mobile phone to do this.

  6. As soon as possible go to hospital or see your GP.

  7. If your injuries are serious, report the accident to the Health and Safety Executive as soon as possible.
